Today I thought I'd show you some photos of the Shetland pony herd which lives in a field near us.
They may look all sweet & cuddly but they can be quite a handful as they are half wild & will mob you for a carrot...but they do look cute!

They are so lovely...but I don't think I would want to get too close!

The wildlife Trusts around here use Exmoor ponies for grazing on conservation areas, and boy! do they have some vicious fights!
ReplyDeleteThey look so lovely!!! Best keep your distance though - eh!!

We used to have a cuddy looking shetland - it was a fiend in equine form - although we were very fond of her. Give me a gentle shire anyday!
ReplyDeleteI'm a bit nervous when they are a lot together like that...and you wouldn't catch me walking through a field of cows, much to Mr Boo's annoyance when we're out on a walk and we have to take a 3 mile detour!

They sure do look cute. I am cautious around anything bigger than a house cat. :-) Do they like carrots? Maybe I would make friends slowly.
ReplyDeleteI used to ride a shetland pony as a child, it was one hell of a ride! I remember being on the floor a few times. They are very gutsy animals.
ReplyDeleteThey almost look like MLP's come to life -sort of the Ewok verison. It never occurred to me there could be half-wild Shetland ponies.
ReplyDeletegorgeous! i see alot of the dartmoor ponies and horses and they are wonderful animals- such a lovely post ;0)xxxx
ReplyDeleteSo cute, I could pop one in my handbag :)

I know what you mean about being wary. I nearly got trampled by bullocks once. Lovely to go nature visiting through you. Helen (www.happinesskindled.blogspot.com)
